First and foremost, Dr. Gary C Gordon, II, considers himself a vessel created to show love and reflect light and positivity through every thought, conversation, and action. Thus, everything he produces will be a byproduct of his faith and perspective acquired through a beautiful journey of wins, losses, struggles, and exploration. Currently, serving as a father of two and a husband is his most important role—understanding the personal, global and societal impact of a strong family dynamic.
Professionally, Dr. Gordon has over nine years of experience in higher education, eight years supervising professionals, and approximately four years as a manager. During his time in higher education, he has served and lead at various levels, including undergraduate and graduate student assistant, coordinator, and at the assistant, associate, and director level. During his professional tenure, Dr. Gordon has led many trainings, presented at conferences, and served on campus committees, but one critical takeaway learned during his experience is the criticality of appropriately linking assessment and evaluation to the narratives that they accompany—never minimizing one’s story; people are dynamic individuals and should never be solely reduced to numbers or misrepresented to positively or negatively push an agenda.
Educationally, Dr. Gordon received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University, San Bernardino, a Master’s in Education with a Higher Education concentration, and his Education Doctorate in Higher Education Leadership for Community Colleges and Universities from California State University, Fullerton. Although formal education has been pivotal, he has derived much of his learning from his family, community, and strong friendships, such as those from his Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated brothers.
As a father, husband, author, and higher education professional, Dr. Gordon continues to challenge systems in an effort to create just and equitable environments and illuminate love via conversations, poetry, and publishing. Onward and Upward.
